Welcome! I'm a writer, editor, traveler, gardener, damn good cookie-maker, and soon-to-be mom.
My articles have been published in several anthologies and magazines, including Afar, Islands, National Geographic Traveler, Garden Design, Sport Diver, and on nationalgeographic.com. I've worked as a contributing editor for Islands, an associate editor at Sport Diver, and a freelance editor at Via. I was a senior editor at Afar, which launched in 2009. While I was at Afar, the magazine won the 2010 Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Award for the best travel magazine in the United States.
I love to write about innovative people, interesting cultures, and faraway places, but I'm also interested in topics closer to home: how to balance writing and motherhood, how to use gardening as inspiration for living, how to navigate the geography of a marriage when you're inherently clumsy. I hope to explore topics like these on my upcoming blog and in personal essays.
In August 2012, I returned from a nine-month trip to Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, which I wrote about on my Happy Travels Blog. Now I'm working part-time as a social media strategist and editor at Wilderness Travel and writing part-time from our home in Oakland, California. My baby girl is due in mid-July 2013, but it's a very soft deadline.
